Family drama takes centre stage in The Players Christmas special

Christmas cheer comes early to Brunswick when Melbourne podcasters The Players perform their Christmas special to a live audience! The Players invites one and all to be a part of the crowd as they create their very first live recording. It will be a feisty night of folly, frolics and the kind of excitement only thespians can create, and there will be prizes a plenty.

The Drummonds are hosting Christmas. Emotions are high and it’s drama, drama, drama!

Amidst opening presents, backyard French cricket, and a formal dinner party Flora can't stop fighting with River, Edward is not happy about …well…anything, and Ruby finds out about Edward's affair with Kirana. Just a normal family Christmas!

Written and produced by Brunswick local Samsara, The Players is a soap-opera style podcast - the audio answer to The Bold and Beautiful. It follows the trials and tribulations of the Drummond and the Bannister families as they navigate their way to launch Dramaticus, a theatre company. Brother and sister fight for artistic direction and their children struggle to find their identities as they are pitted against each other daily.

Samsara achieved her Masters of Writing For Performance from VCA in 2016. In The Players she combines this talent and her love of soap operas with sound engineering skills developed early in her career working as a sound technician at Arts Centre Melbourne before going on to lecture in the field at Box Hill Institute and then VCA. Samsara works closely with an amazing team of actors to create the intensely emotional and often quite hilarious circumstances the Drummonds and Bannisters find themselves in daily as they try to combine work and family in the always fraught theatre industry.

Like all great family get-togethers, A Very Drummond Christmas promises to be eventful to say the least. Be in the audience as this special podcast recording session is live streamed to The Players audience around the world. The Players is available free on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher and Tune In and most podcast apps. JO BOYD TAKES OVER THE ROLE OF KIRANA

In 2019 the role of Kirana has been taken over by Jo Boyd as we sadly had to say goodbye to Gabrielle Reiher at Christmas. Gabrielle has gone on to focus on other exciting opportunities. You may remember Jo from filling in the role of Ruby Drummond when Maree Shefford was a bit poorly. When we realised we needed a new Kirana we didn't have to look far at all. Welcome to the team Jo!!!

Jo Boyd is playing the role of Kirana
Jo is a mother, a grandmother and a small business owner and also really enjoys modelling and creative photography. She has a real passion for acting which has steered her toward film and podcasting and in all of this she relishes a good challenge! Jo's films include The Last Hope, To Love Somebody, Dark Night of the Zomboogies, Blue, Faberge Black, and The Faceless Man. She is currently filming Of Course God Is Italian. Jo also featured in the music video Which Witch is Which. Jo would love to take on more featured speaking roles and extras work.
