SCOTT KNIGHT PLAYS EDWARD DRUMMOND

Scott Knight
Ruby and Edward are married, but far from a happy couple!

Scott Knight is playing the role of Edward Drummond

Scott can currently be seen as Schmidt in the indi-film Martial Problems, winner best screenplay and best comedy at the 2017 Melbourne Underground Film Festival. Previous credits include the post-apocalyptic indie feature The Man in Vegas as ex-military officer Syd and in the indie sci-fi flick The Green Woman as Sargent Fischer.

Trained in performance at Melbourne’s celebrated Verve Studios, Scott easily moves between theatre, film and tv, playing a variety of diverse roles including the three characters of High Court Judge, Policeman and Mining Magnate in the theatre production of The Exception and the Rule. Scott has recently starred in several short films playing a crooked detective in Wild Card, a grieving father in A Hug of YaYa and a clueless boss in Death in the Office.

Scott is also working with Samsara to bring a great energy, physicality and playful delivery to the role of Cameron Everbright in the stage presentation of Dramatic Reaction at LaMama.

EDWARD DRUMMOND

Edward is 40 years old and is Ruby's second husband.  He was born in England to a family with a questionable past and dangerous connections.  He was lucky to be endowed with incredible good looks, hypnotic eyes, and the ability to charm the skin off a snake.  Afraid of hard work and lacking the interest or focus to acquire a formal education, Edward made his way through his early years grifting and living off the good will of others.  He acquired friends easily, but lost them just as quickly.

Eventually he became involved with a theatrical troupe and his good looks meant he was regularly cast as the romantic lead.  This led to him getting work on the West End and a level of notoriety as a B-list celebrity.  His looks and charm made him a favourite of the talk show circuit which is how he achieved his fame, rather than his skill as an actor.  His lack of commitment limited his success on stage, but the people loved to see his face on TV.

This was how he met Ruby.  They both attended a major fundraising ball in London.  Ruby was ripe for picking when he met her.  She was a lonely widow, wild and confused, and had lots and lots of cash and a fondness for travel.  Edward zeroed in on her immediately.  With her children safely out of the picture in boarding school he saw Ruby as a free ticket to a life of luxury and leisure and he set about courting her with vigor.  Within six weeks he wooed her into a whirlwind marriage.

Immediately after the wedding Edward quit working and set about living the playboy life he had dreamed of.  He considered his marriage a side issue and quite unashamedly philandered his way around the world.  Edwards biggest hurdle was keeping the children out of the way and in boarding school.

Eventually Ruby got deliberately pregnant to try and settle him down.  He adores Flora, their daughter, but has grown contemptuous of Ruby for that pathetic attempt.  He has not sent Flora off to boarding school as the others where, but has showered gifts and affection on her, giving in to her every whim her whole life.

Edward knows this theatre company is Ruby's latest attempt to bring him to heel.  He will play along with it for now, because Flora thinks it will be great fun and he likes the idea of impressing her.

Episode 14 - The Captivation

INT.  STAGE.  KIRANA IS PRACTISING ON THE PIANO
EDWARD (Stands, listening for a moment.  When Kirana stops he claps).  Wonderful playing my dear.
KIRANA Oh, sorry.  I didn’t see you there.  Nobody was here (looks to where Brick had exited) so I thought I would get a bit of practice in.
EDWARD No need to apologise.  That was positively delightful.  Was that the Moonlight Sonata or do my ears deceive me in my dotage?
KIRANA Yes.  Yes it was.  I have a recital coming up so I thought I would get in a bit of practice.  This is a lovely piano.  Such a joy to play.
EDWARD (chuckling). Yes, only the best for us – which is why you are here of course!
KIRANA I don’t know about that.
EDWARD Oh, I am sorry, I seem to have made you a bit uncomfortable, and like the big oaf I am, I have not even managed introductions.  I, beautiful lady, am Edward Drummond, and you must be the lovely Kirana – pianist extraordinaire!
KIRANA (giggling) Yes, I am Kirana.  I believe I will be accompanying you and your daughter for a…

Episode 19- The Seduction

INT.  BISTRO.  KIRANA AND EDWARD SIPPING DRINKS.
KIRANA This is a lovely place.
EDWARD Yes.  I come here often.
KIRANA It has a very elegant ambience.  I can see why you like it.  Not to mention how conveniently close it is to the theatre.
EDWARD All of that, and the food is superb.  Alejandro, the chef, makes the most outstanding paella.  Would you like to share one with me?
KIRANA Oh, no thanks.  I can’t really stay that long.  I have a lot of preparation to do for my recital – and the launch tomorrow, of course!
EDWARD Ah, yes, the launch.  Well, you know, we still have a lot to talk over about that, so we might be here awhile.  It only makes sense to combine working and eating together.  That way you will be able to use your time afterwards to focus on your recital.
KIRANA (laughing) Your logic defies argument, and to be honest I am rather hungry.
EDWARD Excellent!  (indicates for waiter, who comes over)  Ask Alejandro to prepare his best paella de deux for myself and this beautiful lady.  Oh, an…
