Episode 32 - The River

INT.  BOARDROOM.  ALL THE DRUMMONDS AND BANNISTERS ARE THEIR EXCEPT EMERALD AND EDWARD.
RIVER
So now that we have the problem with the piano sorted out, we are back on schedule to do a full dress rehearsal at 3 this afternoon.

SIENNA
Will Emerald have my costume here in time.

RIVER
I assume so.  I did advise her of the schedule.

MICHAEL
She is working as fast as she can Sienna.  She won’t let her sister down.  You know that.

SIENNA
I know dad.  I guess I am just getting a little bit antsy.  We are cutting it fine.

FLORA
I’m bored.  Are we finished yet?

RIVER
That is all I have to report.

RUBY
Thank you River.  It sounds like it is all coming together beautifully.  Well, that is all the agenda items – except for Edward’s of course – so if nobody has any other business...

EDWARD ENTERS.
EDWARD
Morning everyone.  Sorry for my tardiness.  I am sure you all had a lot of gossip to exchange while you were waiting, but now we can get down to business.

FLORA
Daddy!  I am so glad you are here.  They have all been saying nasty things about you.  I want to leave now.  Can we go and rehearse?  Also, I really want to show you the new shoes I got for my costume.  River was too mean to get them for me so I had to do it all by myself.

EDWARD
Not now, sweetie.  We have important business to discuss first.  But first, what do you mean they were saying mean things about me.

RUBY
Flora, that is not true.  Ed we were merely saying that we didn’t have to wait for you to begin because there were enough people here to make the decisions necessary.

EDWARD
What do you mean you made decisions without me?

MICHAEL
Well, Edward, nobody knew where you were, you didn’t send apologies through River, and we couldn’t get in touch with you.  For all we knew we could be sitting around all day waiting, and achieve nothing.

EDWARD
You will wait as long as you have to for me to arrive!

RUBY
Now Ed, you know we can’t run a business that way.  With the launch happening in only a few hours, we need to get focussed and make sure everything is ready.  We just didn’t have time to wait.

EDWARD
Alright.  But I want you all to be clear - I will not tolerate this in the future.  Now, let’s get on with business.  As you said, Ruby, we don’t have much time and Flora, Kirana and I need to rehearse.

BRICK
Actually, Edward, there is nothing left to discuss.  We have already covered all the business and are well on track even without your indispensable presence.

RUBY
He is right Ed.  I was just about to close the meeting.

FLORA
Come on daddy, let’s go.  I want to sing.

EDWARD
What?  Fine.  Right. Well... yes, let’s go Flora.  We’ll show them how it is supposed to be done.  Colonial upstarts!  Just you all wait and see tonight.  You will see who are the stars of this outfit.

FLORA AND EDWARD EXIT.
RUBY
Oh dear... okay, as I was saying before Ed entered, does anyone have any other business?  No? Okay.  I declare the meeting closed.  Go get ‘em team!  Oh, and River, can you please check in on Ed and Flora and just make sure they have what they need.

EVERYONE ELSE EXITS.
RIVER
Sure Mum.

RUBY
I am afraid they are going to throw some spokes in the plan.

RIVER
Yeah.  I think I am going to need to keep a close eye on them today.  Just what I needed!

RUBY
You can cope sweetheart.  And if it gets too bad, come and find me and I will try and sort things out or calm things down.  Although my track record so far isn’t great, is it?

RIVER
Don’t worry Mum.  I am the river, free flowing and malleable to the terrain.  (both laugh)

THEY HUG AND THEN BOTH EXIT.

END.

BRICK
Why, what did you do?
SIENNA
He rang me just before we went out shopping and I burst into tears and told him the whole sorry story.Obviously I was feeling a whole lot less confident then, than I do now with all the help and support you and Emerald are giving me.

Episode 26 - The Remonstration

INT.  BACK STAGE.  RIVER AND FRANK ARE GOING OVER THE SCHEDULE FOR THE NEXT DAY.
RIVER Yes, Frank, that should work.  I nearly had a heart attack when the supplier rang and gave me the final dimensions!
FRANK No stress, Miss Drummond.  Every problem has a solution.
RIVER (laughing)  Frank, we are going to be working together quite intimately for a long time to come, so I think you can start calling me River.
FRANK Thanks River.  I wasn’t sure.  What, with you being the boss’s daughter and all.
RIVER When we are here at Dramaticus I am the Head Stage Manager, not Ruby’s daughter.  You are the Technical Manager and we are going to have to develop a strong working relationship in order to make this theatre work.  We can’t do that if I am putting on airs and graces, or if you think you can’t speak opening and honestly with me without fear of repercussions.
FRANK That is true.  I am very relieved to hear you say that.
RIVER Look, it’s getting late and there is not much more we can do today.  How about…
