Episode 29 - The Exhaustion

INT.  EMERALD’S WORKROOM.  EMERALD IS ASLEEP OVER THE CUTTING TABLE.  MICHAEL KNOCKS AND ENTERS HOLDING TWO CUPS OF COFFEE.

MICHAEL
Oh my baby girl.  You are exhausted.

EMERALD
(rubbing her eyes) Dad!  Coffee!  You are a god!

MICHAEL
No, just your father.  Have you been working all night?

EMERALD
Ohhh.  I still have so much to do!  What time is it?

MICHAEL
Relax.  It is only 7 o’clock.

EMERALD
Oh, good.  Last time I looked it was 5:30, so I haven’t lost too much time.

MICHAEL
Poor baby.  We need to get you some help.  What needs doing?  How many sets of hands do we need?

EMERALD
Relax Dad.  If it wasn’t for this costume debacle, I would be sleeping in today.  River has all the staging and props, and all the rest of the costumes are at the theatre.  All I have to do is this dress.  It is just taking longer than I thought.

MICHAEL
Why?  What are you doing to it?

EMERALD
Not a lot really.  I have done the alterations, but there is quite a bit of beading detail which I have to do by hand and that is really time consuming.  Not to mention my eyes are killing me!

MICHEAL
What about the rest of you.  It can’t be good for you to be sitting in this cramped position for so many hours on end.

EMERALD
I will be a bit crippled for the next few days but it is worth it.  Sienna is not going to be outshone by our evil cousin, Flora!

MICHAEL
Oh Emerald.  I wish you girls could get along better.

EMERALD
Ha.  That’s what Aunt Ruby said.

MICHAEL
Well she is right.

EMERALD
The problem is that the definition of ‘getting along’ is us having to give in to everything Flora wants.  That’s not fair.  (moves to ease pain in her back)

MICHAEL
(coming over to rub her shoulders and back).  Did you do your physiotherapy yesterday?

EMERALD
No, I didn’t have time.

MICHAEL
You need to make time, Emerald.  Otherwise you really will end up crippled.  Have you done it at all this week?

EMERALD
No...

MICHAEL
Emerald!  Will I have to get you a full time nurse again?  If you don’t manage your needs properly yourself, I swear I will do it.

EMERALD
No Dad.  Look, I’m sorry, it has just been so hectic.  There just didn’t seem to be time.

MICHAEL
There is always time for your health and well being.  This is partly my fault.  I have been so distracted with this launch myself, I haven’t been paying attention.  I am sorry.

EMERALD
Oh Dad.  I am an adult now.  It really is my responsibility, not yours.

MICHAEL
Nevertheless, we are going to fix this right now.  Up you get.  We are going to have a quick healthy breakfast and go through your physiotherapy routine, and only then will I let you get back to this dress.  And even that is only on the proviso that you agree to take a nap this afternoon before the launch.

EMERALD
Dad I really can’t.

MICHAEL
This is not a negotiation Emerald.  Up.  Now.

EMERALD
Dad!

MICHAEL
If you don’t go into the kitchen now, by your own steam, I will carry you there myself.  You know I can, and you know I will.

EMERALD
Alright!  Alright!  We will just do the short session though.  I really can’t afford more than a half an hour... especially if I have to take a nap today as well.

MICHAEL
Deal!

END.

JO BOYD TAKES OVER THE ROLE OF KIRANA

In 2019 the role of Kirana has been taken over by Jo Boyd as we sadly had to say goodbye to Gabrielle Reiher at Christmas. Gabrielle has gone on to focus on other exciting opportunities. You may remember Jo from filling in the role of Ruby Drummond when Maree Shefford was a bit poorly. When we realised we needed a new Kirana we didn't have to look far at all. Welcome to the team Jo!!!

Jo Boyd is playing the role of Kirana
Jo is a mother, a grandmother and a small business owner and also really enjoys modelling and creative photography. She has a real passion for acting which has steered her toward film and podcasting and in all of this she relishes a good challenge! Jo's films include The Last Hope, To Love Somebody, Dark Night of the Zomboogies, Blue, Faberge Black, and The Faceless Man. She is currently filming Of Course God Is Italian. Jo also featured in the music video Which Witch is Which. Jo would love to take on more featured speaking roles and extras work.
