Episode 24 - The Calming

INT.  BISTRO.  SIENNA AND BRICK ARE HAVING A DRINK.  MICHAEL WALKS IN AGITATED AND HEADS STRAIGHT TO THE BAR.

BRICK
Oh, look, your dad has just come in.

SIENNA
Where? (turns head) Oh, there he is.  Oh dear, he does not look happy.

BRICK
I wonder what has him so riled?

SIENNA
Ah, my guess is that would be me.

BRICK
Why, what did you do?

SIENNA
He rang me just before we went out shopping and I burst into tears and told him the whole sorry story.  Obviously I was feeling a whole lot less confident then, than I do now with all the help and support you and Emerald are giving me.

BRICK
I think we should invite him over.  He should hear the good news,  That way he will be able to sleep tonight.

SIENNA
The good news! Hah.

BRICK
Now, now, I thought we were past all that.  You take another swig of that very effective Margarita and I will bring him over.

SIENNA
Mmmm.  Good idea.  Order me another while you’re up there.  This one is going down very easy.  (both laugh).

BRICK
It’s a good thing you are my cousin or I could have my wicked way with you.

SIENNA
The best guys are always relatives or gay.  Sigh.

BRICK
The best – and the worst!

SIENNA
Pssht.  Go!  No talking about Edward OR Flora tonight., by royal decree of the High Queen Sienna of the realm of Dramaticus

BRICK
(bowing) Your majesty.  But seriously, maybe I shouldn’t get you another one of those.  They look dangerous.

SIENNA
Nonsense.  Another for me, and while you are there, get yourself one too.  There is no adventure in scotch – I don’t care how old it is.  Scotch is a serious drink and this is a night for fun and relaxation.

BRICK
Not for Emerald.

SIENNA
True…all the more reason you should join me.  In honour of the hard work she is putting in and the sacrifice she is making this evening.

BRICK
Alright.  I am going now, my liege.

SIENNA
Get thee hence and do my bidding! (bursts into giggles.  Brick brings Michael to the table)  Hello daddy.

MICHAEL
You look like you are having a good time.  Last time we spoke you were in tears – understandably.  You know you don’t have to pretend you are not in pain around me sweetheart.  I am your father.  Cry, rage at the world.  I am here for you.

SIENNA
Oh, no daddy.  I already did that.  Brick and Emerald held my hand and were strong for me.

MICHAEL
I thank you Brick.  It is good to know that you are willing to be strong for Sienna, even when what is happening affects you too.

BRICK
Well, Uncle Mike, I am not going to pretend I wasn’t shocked and appalled when I found out, but my two gorgeous cousins are a lot stronger, and more resilient than we give them credit for.  Sienna and I blasted the boutiques together – Sienna does a truly entrancing gown modelling pose by the way, we should look at putting that in a show, the men won’t know what hit them!

SIENNA
Stop it!  You’re my cousin.

BRICK
But seriously, we found an amazing gown, and Emerald has risen like a greek goddess, and is working away this evening to make it even better than her original design.  She is a power house, that woman.

MICHAEL
Well, I am glad it has been sorted out.  I am a bit worried about the amount of work that has been laid at Emeralds’ feet for this event.  I think I am going to have to insist on getting her a design assistant for the shows.  And whilst I am glad this costume problem seems to have been sorted out, I am very angry that Emerald now has all this extra work to do.  She was already on a very tight work schedule, and now THIS! (bangs his glass on the table so hard the ice jingles)

SIENNA
Dad, it’s going to be okay.  You know she is loving it – or was until today – and Em is totally energised by her design work.  You see how her face glows, even under the baggy, sleep deprived eyes, and big yawns.

MICHAEL
That is true. (he smiles a small smile to himself)  I am just not sure she will get it all done, and even if she does, will she have a breakdown at the end.  This much stress and work isn’t good for anyone.

SIENNA
Remember, she can rest after the launch tomorrow night.

BRICK
Yes.  You and mum haven’t even announced our inaugural production yet.  She can have a rest until you do.  No one can start work when we don’t even know what play we are doing.  By the way, it’s just the three of us here now, and no one is sitting within hearing distance – what IS the play?  Have you two made a decision yet?

MICHAEL
Yes.  Yes we have.  However, I am a vault.  These lips are sealed.  You will all have to wait until tomorrow night, just like everyone else.

SIENNA
Oooh.  So you WILL be announcing the show!  Will you be announcing the whole season?

MICHAEL
Now that I can tell you.  Yes, we have the full season lined up.

BRICK
Are you and mum the only ones who know the details, or are Si and I the only two mushrooms who know nothing?

MICHAEL
(laughing)  Only Ruby and I know.  Oh, and River.  We needed her help to get things organised so we had to let her in on it as well.

BRICK
Why, that little sneak!  She never let on for a single second.

MICHAEL

Yes, she is very, very good at her job.  (They all laugh).  I had better head home and check in on Emerald.  Don’t stay out too late you two.  Director’s orders!  You don’t want to look all strung out and puffy on our big debut!

BRICK
Alright!  Jeesh. Everybody is giving me orders tonight.  (Sienna gives him a little side swipe, and he overexagerates it)  Ouch!  That’s it.  You’re cut off for the rest of the evening.

SIENNA
(laughing) Bye dad, I’ll be home soon.  (They kiss and Michael exits).

END.

JO BOYD TAKES OVER THE ROLE OF KIRANA

In 2019 the role of Kirana has been taken over by Jo Boyd as we sadly had to say goodbye to Gabrielle Reiher at Christmas. Gabrielle has gone on to focus on other exciting opportunities. You may remember Jo from filling in the role of Ruby Drummond when Maree Shefford was a bit poorly. When we realised we needed a new Kirana we didn't have to look far at all. Welcome to the team Jo!!!

Jo Boyd is playing the role of Kirana
Jo is a mother, a grandmother and a small business owner and also really enjoys modelling and creative photography. She has a real passion for acting which has steered her toward film and podcasting and in all of this she relishes a good challenge! Jo's films include The Last Hope, To Love Somebody, Dark Night of the Zomboogies, Blue, Faberge Black, and The Faceless Man. She is currently filming Of Course God Is Italian. Jo also featured in the music video Which Witch is Which. Jo would love to take on more featured speaking roles and extras work.
