Episode 16 – The Insinuation

INT.  AUDITORIUM.

EDWARD
Well, I have absolutely no idea what has happened to that irresponsible young daughter of mine.

KIRANA
Do you think she’s okay?  Maybe you should call her?

EDWARD
I will.  I doubt if she will be here immediately even if I can find her.  Why don’t you pack up your music and we can spend the rest of the session chatting over a drink in the bistro next door?

KIRANA
Oh, I wouldn’t want to keep you away from things you need to do to prepare for the launch.

EDWARD
Nonsense.  Everything is well in hand, and I could really use your expert advice on how best to prepare with the limited time we have.

KIRANA
Well...I guess so...

EDWARD
Excellent.  I will just give my daughter a quick call and then we’ll be off.

KIRANA STARTS PACKING UP HER MUSIC AND BRICK ENTERS.

BRICK
You look like you are getting ready to leave.  It’s a bit early isn’t it?  You have only been here an hour.  Let me guess, no one has turned up.

KIRANA
Well, you are half right.  Edward has been here, but his daughter is missing in action.

BRICK
Surprise, surprise.

KIRANA
Why do you say that?

BRICK
Let’s just say I have had a bit of experience dealing with Flora.

KIRANA
That does not sound promising.

BRICK
It isn’t.  But enough of this.  As your rehearsal has been cut short, perhaps you would like to join me for a coffee?  It is the least I can do to apologise for your wasted time.

KIRANA
Oh, no.  That is alright.  Sometimes things just happen.  Besides, Ed has already apologised.

BRICK
So it’s ‘Ed’ already, huh?  Did he tell you how beautiful your eyes were, and that your hands move like gossamer over the keyboard

KIRANA
No.  Don’t be silly.  He is a lovely man.  Very considerate.  In fact, he is taking me for a drink now to discuss the launch further right now, so I have to say no to your offer.

BRICK
Oh, he is, is he?  You do know he is married, don’t you?

KIRANA
Of course I do.  Just what is it you are implying?

BRICK
I just wanted to see how open your eyes are.  I guess you’re not quite the person I assumed you were.

KIRANA
That is so insulting!  Ed is just being nice and you make all these foul accusations!  Why don’t you go back to your dark, dirty stage shadows and leave the real artists to do their work.

EDWARD
What’s going on here?  Are you alright Kirana?  You seem upset.  What has this ignoramus been saying to you to cause you such irritation?

KIRANA
Oh, no nothing.  It’s alright.  I just...misunderstood something he said.

EDWARD
And what exactly was it you ‘misunderstood’.

KIRANA
Um...I thought he was saying that...er...

BRICK
I think she thought I said there would be no more rehearsal time, didn’t you?  I am so sorry for the confusion.  I meant to say that if you let us know what times suit you best, we can work out the other rehearsals around your needs.

KIRANA
Oh, yes.  I am so sorry I misunderstood.  That sounds lovely.  Especially as this rehearsal has not been very productive.

EDWARD
Yes.  Okay.  (looking at Brick suspiciously) Well, I just spoke to Flora and she forgot about the rehearsal.  She won’t be able to get here any time soon, but she has given me some options of other rehearsal times, which we can discuss over drinks.  Shall we go.

KIRANA
Yes.  That’s a good idea.

BRICK
Bye, bye Kirana.  See you again soon.

END.

JO BOYD TAKES OVER THE ROLE OF KIRANA

In 2019 the role of Kirana has been taken over by Jo Boyd as we sadly had to say goodbye to Gabrielle Reiher at Christmas. Gabrielle has gone on to focus on other exciting opportunities. You may remember Jo from filling in the role of Ruby Drummond when Maree Shefford was a bit poorly. When we realised we needed a new Kirana we didn't have to look far at all. Welcome to the team Jo!!!

Jo Boyd is playing the role of Kirana
Jo is a mother, a grandmother and a small business owner and also really enjoys modelling and creative photography. She has a real passion for acting which has steered her toward film and podcasting and in all of this she relishes a good challenge! Jo's films include The Last Hope, To Love Somebody, Dark Night of the Zomboogies, Blue, Faberge Black, and The Faceless Man. She is currently filming Of Course God Is Italian. Jo also featured in the music video Which Witch is Which. Jo would love to take on more featured speaking roles and extras work.
