Episode 14 - The Captivation

INT.  STAGE.  KIRANA IS PRACTISING ON THE PIANO

EDWARD
(Stands, listening for a moment.  When Kirana stops he claps).  Wonderful playing my dear.

KIRANA
Oh, sorry.  I didn’t see you there.  Nobody was here (looks to where Brick had exited) so I thought I would get a bit of practice in.

EDWARD
No need to apologise.  That was positively delightful.  Was that the Moonlight Sonata or do my ears deceive me in my dotage?

KIRANA
Yes.  Yes it was.  I have a recital coming up so I thought I would get in a bit of practice.  This is a lovely piano.  Such a joy to play.

EDWARD
(chuckling). Yes, only the best for us – which is why you are here of course!

KIRANA
I don’t know about that.

EDWARD
Oh, I am sorry, I seem to have made you a bit uncomfortable, and like the big oaf I am, I have not even managed introductions.  I, beautiful lady, am Edward Drummond, and you must be the lovely Kirana – pianist extraordinaire!

KIRANA
(giggling) Yes, I am Kirana.  I believe I will be accompanying you and your daughter for a performance to launch this theatre on Saturday.

EDWARD
That is correct.  Speaking of daughters, is she around?

KIRANA
I haven’t seen anyone since I was directed to the stage at the front door. (again glances in the direction Brick exited).

EDWARD
Hrmpph!  Never mind.  Her tardiness shall allow us to make beautiful music together.  Speaking of which, have you been given the music?

KIRANA
Yes, I have it here.  (gets ready to play).

EDWARD
Good, good.  No rush though.  Flora’s not here and I think we should take the time to get to know each other a bit better.

KIRANA
I really would like to get started.  We don’t have much time and I want to be as good as possible for you.

EDWARD
I have complete faith that you are magnificent.  I tell you what, while we wait for Flora why don’t I join you at the piano and we can do some warm ups with some standard musical numbers.  (sits next to her on the piano stool)

KIRANA
Um, okay.  I don’t have a lot of music with me, but I do know a few songs. (shuffles over a bit)

EDWARD
Mmmm.  Let’s see.  Do you know ‘Isn’t It Romantic’?

KIRANA
Yes.  That is one I know.

EDWARD
Great.  Then shall we begin?  (Kirana starts playing and Edward flirts as he sings)

END.

JO BOYD TAKES OVER THE ROLE OF KIRANA

In 2019 the role of Kirana has been taken over by Jo Boyd as we sadly had to say goodbye to Gabrielle Reiher at Christmas. Gabrielle has gone on to focus on other exciting opportunities. You may remember Jo from filling in the role of Ruby Drummond when Maree Shefford was a bit poorly. When we realised we needed a new Kirana we didn't have to look far at all. Welcome to the team Jo!!!

Jo Boyd is playing the role of Kirana
Jo is a mother, a grandmother and a small business owner and also really enjoys modelling and creative photography. She has a real passion for acting which has steered her toward film and podcasting and in all of this she relishes a good challenge! Jo's films include The Last Hope, To Love Somebody, Dark Night of the Zomboogies, Blue, Faberge Black, and The Faceless Man. She is currently filming Of Course God Is Italian. Jo also featured in the music video Which Witch is Which. Jo would love to take on more featured speaking roles and extras work.
