Episode 2 - The First Gathering

INT.  BOARDROOM.  RIVER IS SETTING UP.  RUBY, MICHAEL AND EDWARD ENTER.

MICHAEL
River, sweetheart, how is it all going?

RIVER
Uncle Mike,  (gives him a hug).

RUBY
Is everything ready River?

RIVER
Yes Mum.  I am just setting out the agendas now.

EDWARD
Well where is everyone.  I don’t have all day to waist.  Let’s get started.

RIVER
Brick, Sienna and Flora should just be finishing rehearsal downstairs now.  Emerald won’t be attending.  She says she still has a lot of work to finish on Flora’s costume, with all the changes, and will work better from home.

EDWARD
Balderdash!  She is just too scared to come in.  This isn’t going to work you know Ruby.  Emerald is unreliable, always hiding out at home.  She is never around when you need her.

MICHAEL
That’s not true you ignorant fool!  She is a designer.  She needs her creative space and she has been working her fingers to the bone getting these costumes ready in time for the launch.  In fact, if it wasn’t for your daughter being so difficult, they would be done by now.

EDWARD
How dare you blame Flora for your daughter’s impaired psychological incompetence.

RIVER
Edward!

RUBY
Both of you, stop!  Edward apologise right now.

EDWARD
I shouldn’t have to apologise for speaking the truth.

RUBY
Now, Edward!  That was completely uncalled for, bringing up Emerald’s challenges in that manner.

MICHAEL
If you don’t take that back I am going to knock that smirk off your face with this cane.

RUBY
Edward, apologise.  (Brick and Sienna enter singing and laughing.  They stop as they come in, sensing the tension)

SIENNA
Hi everyone.  What’s going on.

RIVER
Umm.  There has been a bit of a disagreement.

BRICK
Anything important?

RUBY
Edward

EDWARD
(An uncomfortable laugh) Just establishing working relationships.  You know how these things are.  Sorry, Michael, old chum.  You know I think Emerald is adorable.

SIENNA
What about Emerald

RIVER
Er, we were just discussing how Emerald will be missing the meeting because she is a bit behind on the costumes.

SIENNA
Oh, Flora’s changes.

RUBY
Yes.  Speaking of Flora, where is she?

RIVER
She was supposed to be rehearsing with the two of you.  Shouldn’t she be here now?

BRICK
Flora never turned up for rehearsal today.  Or yesterday.  We don’t know where she is.

RUBY
Give her a call please River.  (River tries to call, it goes to voice mail)  Well we really do need to get started even though she isn’t here.

EDWARD
You can’t start without her.  She is an integral part of this theatre company.

BRICK
If we waited for Flora for rehearsals we wouldn’t have an act for the launch.

RUBY
River can join in when she gets here.

SIENNA
If she gets here.

RUBY
In the meantime everyone please take your seats.  River has set out copies of the agenda for you all.  Please take a moment to look through it before we begin.

END.

JO BOYD TAKES OVER THE ROLE OF KIRANA

In 2019 the role of Kirana has been taken over by Jo Boyd as we sadly had to say goodbye to Gabrielle Reiher at Christmas. Gabrielle has gone on to focus on other exciting opportunities. You may remember Jo from filling in the role of Ruby Drummond when Maree Shefford was a bit poorly. When we realised we needed a new Kirana we didn't have to look far at all. Welcome to the team Jo!!!

Jo Boyd is playing the role of Kirana
Jo is a mother, a grandmother and a small business owner and also really enjoys modelling and creative photography. She has a real passion for acting which has steered her toward film and podcasting and in all of this she relishes a good challenge! Jo's films include The Last Hope, To Love Somebody, Dark Night of the Zomboogies, Blue, Faberge Black, and The Faceless Man. She is currently filming Of Course God Is Italian. Jo also featured in the music video Which Witch is Which. Jo would love to take on more featured speaking roles and extras work.
